The algorithm behind the PadelLevels ratings are fundamentally different to other systems such as playtomic’s ELO rating system. While ELO is simply up if you win and down if you lose, PadelLevels compares the actual match outcome to the predicted match outcome and adjusts player levels accordingly. The predicted match outcome is calculated by the algorithm based on your team level and your opponents’ team level, see How Levels are calculated for a deeper dive.
While other common rating systems are linear in scale, PadelLevels are exponential. This allows for meaningful interpretation of how levels translate to actual playing level. If player A’s level is double player B’s, player A is twice as good as player B. Linear rating systems don’t allow for this insight.
We are aware that some people are more familiar with other rating systems so we allow for your level to be viewed as a rating in different rating systems, by mapping PadelLevels to other ratings. See our guide on Switching between rating systems for more details.
